Dr. Helima Croft


is a Senior Strategist with the Business Intelligence Group at Lehman Brothers, where she is responsible for providing assessments for the Executive Committee on key geopolitical developments.

Nigeria, Africa’s largest oil producer, is preparing for historic elections this year. Violence accompanying the pre

election cycle has had a large impact on Nigerian oil production and contributed to further volatility in the oilrich Niger Delta. Dr. Croft will discuss the effects of the April elections on Nigeria’s oil infrastructure. Her talk will also address how variables such as more sophisticated military groups and vengeful political candidates have increased instability in the preelection period and contributed to the precarious situation in their oil industry.

Prior to joining Lehman Brothers, she was the 2004
2005 Intelligence Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. Dr. Croft spent four years at the Central Intelligence Agency, where she was a senior Economic Analyst in the office of Asian Pacific, Latin American, and African Analysis. She focused on energy security, economic reform and corruption in West Africa and received five exceptional performance awards for her achievements. She previously was a lecturer at Princeton University, where she received her Ph.D in Economic History in 2001. Dr. Croft was a member of the recent
